The Because...
Many years ago, I asked a friend to go someplace with me that she was not accustomed to going… namely, church.
When her husband asked why she was going… her response was, “Because it is important to Donna, and she is important to me.”
The Dose was happy to hear about this exchange. Her response resonated with me… even to this day.
Ever been in my friend’s place? Not necessarily asked to go to church, but to go somewhere —not harmful, dangerous, and/or immoral—your friend frequents but you don’t.
Or maybe, like me, you sat with a friend or family member who was either grieving or going through a difficult season. These are the times their monologues can appear to be, understandably, on continuous repeat.
Whether it is going or listening, I find myself mentally repeating these words, “It’s important to them, so it’s important to me.”
This is a sign of humility… to think less often of yourself and to focus on the what’s important to those of significance in your life.
Need a because to do something different? It could for someone else and not you!
