Gibberish “Talk”

Guilty! The Dose has been guilty of talking gibberish… particularly when I don’t know what else to say.

Conversations are exchanges of thoughts, ideas, and the like. Unlike a monologue, the start of a conversation begs the others to speak. So, it’s logical to think that, while participating in such an exchange of words, you should speak as much as the other person.

I grew up noting that my dad spoke only when he had something worthwhile to say. Later, the same was true for a lawyer in my workplace. There was no nonsense coming out of their mouths, no filler words or repeating what other people had said. Their words shared their opinions when asked, and clear direction when guidance was requested.

And when these two folks were silent – that spoke volumes as well. They didn’t have anything of further significance to share.

Their wise strategy had people listening when they did speak up!

Most people, starting with me, desire to have our voices heard, even if we are just repeating the words just stated by others.

There’s nothing that quickly turns off a listening ear more than babble, and nothing speaks louder than silence.

Speak up applicably. Be quiet strategically… gibber not needed!
